If you have a greivence to file at Western International High School, and you approach your official union representative, the buidling rep, you could be told anything from "I don't believe you" to "just be glad you have a job".
And if the principal wants to go after you, he sends the building rep to do his dirty work, approaching teachers with a "I heard you did X thing" after receiving his orders from the principal.
This is the opposite of how a buidling rep should behave.
Reps are there to be advocates for the teachers, not to help the principal harass them.
This can easily be remedied by either a. Waiting to the May election for building rep and electing someone who will do their job, or b. Collecting signitures of 30% of Western teachers demanding a new election, in which case there would be an election immediately.
Either way, we need teachers to step forward to be the new rep, alternate rep and be a part of the building union committee.
In the meantime, if teachers are having problems with their principal or getting a greivence filed they can always bypass their building rep and seek assistance directly from the union office at 7700 2nd ave det mi.
We can and must change this.
